Imagine you're lost in a massive desert, hundreds of miles from civilisation, driving a car even your granny would be embarrased by. 50% of your wheels just fell off and a search for tools turns up a dirty sock and two dried apricots.

This is what the Mongol Rally is about. Getting stuck, lost and in trouble, then finding your way out armed with just your wits and the sock and apricots.

It's about setting forth to tackle 1/3 of the surface of the Earth; unprepared, ill-advised and with no idea of what might happen. What you generally find is a whole giant shit heap of adventure.

10,000 miles of pure adventure over mountains, deserts and some of the most remote, challenging terrain on the planet. All in a tiny car designed for doing the weekly shop.

These are genuinely dangerous things to do. The website is written in a light-hearted fashion but you cannot overestimate the risks involved in taking part in this adventure.
Your chances of being seriously injured or dying as a result of taking part are high. Individuals who have taken part in past Adventurists' adventures have been permanently disfigured, seriously disabled or lost their life.
This is not a glorified holiday. Its an unsupported adventure and so by its very nature extremely risky. You really are on your own and you really are putting both your health and life at risk. This is what makes them adventures.

Public and Emergency Service vehicles
The 10 year rule does NOT apply to this category
Vehicles that are deemed to be of sufficient long term value to the Mongolian people are welcomed. If you want to bring this sort of vehicle, which means
generally an ambulance, fire engine, van, etc... get in touch and we will confirm them as OK on an individual basis. Painting a car with a red cross doesn't
make it an ambulance. This approval can take several weeks to extract from the customs department.
If you think your vehicle falls into this category take a look at your vehicle's registration documents. There must be no doubt as to what the vehicle is and it's
intended use. For example, a Dennis fire-engine is not a 'fire-engine' if it is stripped of it's water-tank and it now a 'converted limousine'. N.B - Fire engines
in 2010 had huge difficulty getting across the Russian border - though they made it in the end, it was a time consuming and costly exercise - something
worth having a think about if you were planning to bring one!
Public service vehicles can therefore have any engine capacity and can be older than 10 years old as long as they are in good working order and you get
approval for it based on accurate details of the vehicle and its condition.
